Hi friends!
Welcome to the shiny new Wholly Hooked website and blog!
How cool is that? This is something I've been thinking of doing for a while now, so I decided to bite the bullet and get started. It's been a bit of a learning curve trying to navigate building a website (I'm not the most tech savvy), but a fun challenge all the same. It's good to exercise your brain in new ways, right? Hopefully this is the start of something exciting, and I can't wait to share more about my crochet adventures here.
Anyway, I'll start with a little background to Wholly Hooked:
I decided to start an Instagram account dedicated to crochet just over a year ago. At that point, I had been crocheting for five years and was just starting to try my hand at making garments. I was reluctant to continue spamming my personal Instagram account with all of my crochet projects, so my husband encouraged me to start a crochet account and Wholly Hooked was born. I had just been diagnosed with Crohn's disease and was off work sick while waiting to start my treatment, and crochet was one of the few things I had the energy for. I dreamed of one day designing my own sweater pattern, and I thought that I should start by making every sweater that I could in order to learn more about garment construction (and what I liked and didn't like in a pattern). I then discovered pattern testing, and this in turn led me to the wonderful crochet community on Instagram, where I've made so many good friends - some of whom I now talk to on a daily basis. Pattern testing has been an amazing experience, as I've had the opportunity to work with some crazy talented designers and really expand my crochet knowledge and skills.
Over the last year I've loved sharing my makes on Instagram, but I've been thinking for a while about how I can share more beyond this - and here we are! I hope to share blog posts about pattern tests, special makes, and soon hopefully even my own designs. While I'm still a long way off my goal of designing my own sweater pattern, I have been working on a couple of shawl patterns - you can see one of them in the picture above! I'm really excited to hopefully be able to share some patterns in 2021!
Thank you all so much for joining me, I'm looking forward to sharing more with you over the coming months. Please feel free to say hello in the comments!
